Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is a terrace and viewpoint located in the civil parish of São Vicente, Lisbon. This is one of the most popular Lisbon views and is situated next to the eighteenth century Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount.

This is the highest viewpoint in isbon and, as such, offers the best panoramic view of the city, so make time for it when you visit Lisbon. It is a visual treat for anyone visiting this spot, located high up on the hills. From this point, you can view Castle of São Jorge, the estuary of Tagus River, Bairro Alto, Forestry Park of Monsanto, and the Valley of Avenida Almirante Reis.
I have undertaken the uphill trek to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte many a time and always bring all my visitors and guests here. It is also a favourite for the tuk-tuk drivers who love to bring their clients here. There is a quiosque bar are with seats or you can use te seating next to the view wall. There are often musicians and plenty of life in and around the area and the best part is the journey back down into town!
When I first came here people used to congregate in huge numbers and party all night long. Then on day a huge fence was erected and the revelry was dispersed to other areas. I don’t know how long this eyesore of a fence is going to stay for, the authorities had done a similar thing to another Lisbon view, completely spoiling the vista! Unfortunately, rampant bureaucracy is a favourite among the Portuguese officials and no doubt somebody somewhere thought it was a good idea. ( I believe since last posting the fence has been removed and it is back to normal. )
In any event, best time to visit Miradouro da Senhora do Monte spot is during sunset. The orange-hued skies with the hilltop background make it the most romantic of places. During the daytime, visitors can relax under the canopies of olive and pine trees – hopefully by the time to get there the fence will have been demolished.
