“Eat Drink Walk: Savoring the City on Foot & The Best Walking Food Tour Lisbon Experiences”

Home » Listing » Lisbon Tours » Eat Drink Walk

🍴 One of the better walking food tour Lisbon offers was the hype, so intrigued I set forth on my mission to infiltrate Portuguses culture, minus the Trojan Horse but with all the spirit of discovering Lisbon’s gastronomical landscape. My guide, an authentic “alfacinha de gema,” ( a true native of Lisbon, like a Lisboeta )  promised a journey beyond the well-trodden path of codfish and custard tarts. Spoiler alert: they delivered, though my waistline might beg to differ. I confess, I did go for a couple of tours they had on offer over the course of, ahem, a few days.

🧀 Starting in Lisbon, the “Chiado Gourmet” experience promised an exploration of Portuguese cuisine’s finer side, paired with fantastic wines. The inclusion of a pastel de nata and espresso felt like a nod to tradition amidst the culinary innovation. The tour’s price tag, 125€ per adult, had me expecting gold flakes on my custard tart. While that wasn’t the case, the quality of the food and insights from our guide almost justified the expense. Almost.

BOOKING

👣 Wandering through Lisbon’s most cosmopolitan neighbourhoods, from Chiado’s elegant streets to the lively Baixa Pombalina, was like flipping through a vibrant picture book, each page offering a new taste or sip. The promise of experiencing the city’s trendy spots and beloved eateries in small, intimate groups was enticing. However, navigating the narrow streets often felt like participating in a culinary obstacle course, albeit one punctuated by delightful bursts of flavour.

🍽 The “Tapas – in my downtown walking food tour Lisbon, though temporarily unavailable, teased a tantalizing array of Portuguese flavors, from high-quality tinned fish to the potent “ginginha.” The prospect of weaving through downtown Lisbon’s beauty while embarking on a tapas tasting adventure had my taste buds in anticipation. Yet, the absence of a price or availability date left me with a culinary cliffhanger, eagerly awaiting the next season’s premiere.

Walking Food Tour Lisbon Style!

🍷 The detour south to Azeitão, a mere 30 kilometers from Lisbon, unveiled a different facet of Portugal’s gastronomic prowess. Here, wine is king, and the Moscatel de Setúbal reigns supreme—a sweet nectar that had me questioning my allegiance to dry reds. The famous Azeitão cheese, with its creamy, rich texture, proved a formidable ambassador for Portugal’s dairy artistry.

The visit to a traditional tile painting workshop was a charming, if slightly unrelated, interlude to the day’s indulgences. I pondered the logistics of smuggling a sheep cheese wheel back home. The tour, priced at 145€ per adult, felt like a bargain when considering the sheer volume of wine ingested. The recommended “comfortable shoes” were a godsend, though a warning about the potential for a cheese-induced coma might have been more apt.

In conclusion, “Eat Drink Walk” lived up to its reputation as being abele to offer a great walking food tour Lisbon style, if occasionally wallet-lightening, journey through Lisbon’s culinary wonders. From the historic streets of Chiado to the pastoral delights of Azeitão, each step (and bite) was a thumbs ups to Portugal’s rich gastronomic offerings. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Would my bank account agree? That’s a conversation for another day.
