🍴 My recent dining experience at The George lisbon pub was a delightful journey back to my London roots, where you will find a gastropub on every street corner. I was interested to see the Portuguese take on this Enhlish phenomenon so I entered without booking, although reservations are possible. Under the guidance of Chef Marco Chamberlain Homem de Sá, this establishment offers a comfort food menu that respects traditional flavors while introducing a modern twist. The ambiance of The George perfectly complements its menu, offering a cozy yet sophisticated setting for an evening out in Lisbon.
🌮 Starting with the petiscos, or small plates, each dish was a testament to the chef’s ability to elevate simple ingredients into something extraordinary. The Nachos Com Guacamole were a crunchy, fresh introduction to the meal, setting a high standard for what was to come. Each dish, from the Caldo Verde Com Chouriço to the innovative Pastéis De Bacalhau Nero with chorizo mayonnaise, was a celebration of Portuguese cuisine with a global touch.
🍔 The burgers, particularly the Prince George, were a highlight of the meal. Served with crisp, golden fries and a truffle mayonnaise that added an indulgent richness, the burger itself was cooked to perfection, with the Flamengo cheese, crispy onion, tomato, and lettuce complementing the beef beautifully. The King George and Elizabeth burgers promised even more decadence, with additional toppings and double patties for those with a heartier appetite. I will go for the beef wellington next time as I got major food envy when I saw my neighbouring tables plate.
🍲 The George lisbon pub main courses offered a thoughtful balance between meat, fish, and vegetarian options, ensuring there was something to please every palate. The Risoto De Cogumelos E Abóbora was a creamy, comforting dish with the earthiness of the mushrooms playing off the sweetness of the pumpkin beautifully. Meanwhile, the traditional Bacalhau À Brás was reimagined with a gema confitada, adding a modern twist to a classic dish.
🍰 Dessert was not an afterthought but a continuation of the culinary excellence displayed throughout the meal. The Tarte De Leite Creme Queimada was a standout, with its perfectly caramelized top and rich, creamy interior, proving that simple ingredients could result in a dessert of complex flavors and textures.
🍷 The beverage selection at The George lisbon pub was as carefully curated as the food menu, with a focus on supporting local producers and showcasing a range of Portuguese wines and spirits. The wine list offered something for every taste and budget, from the refreshing V. Verde to the robust and complex Douro and Alentejo selections. The cocktail menu was equally impressive, with innovative creations that were both visually appealing and delicious.
🎉 Planning an event at The George is an opportunity to offer guests a unique experience. The gastropub’s commitment to quality, from its food and drinks to its service and ambiance, makes it an ideal venue for gatherings that seek to impress and delight. The staff’s attention to detail and willingness to accommodate special requests ensure that every event is tailored to the host’s vision.
💖 Dining at The George gastropub was a perfect take on the Ebglish classic and I will definately be going back and recommending my English guests visit too. The thoughtful menu, welcoming atmosphere, and live music make The George a great place for a night out for all!
