🏛️ MUHNAC is the result of a merger between two illustrious institutions: the National Museum of Natural History and the Science Museum of the University of Lisbon. These two entities, each with its own remarkable legacy, came together in 2011 to form the modern MUHNAC. This union allowed the integration of their collections and the consolidation of their mission to educate, inspire, and preserve the wealth of knowledge related to the natural world and scientific discoveries.

This museum is the public face of the Museums unit of the University of Lisbon, an institution with a storied history that dates back to the 18th century. MUHNAC is a repository of knowledge, a guardian of natural wonders, and a place where history and science converge, offering visitors a fascinating journey through the wonders of our world.

🏫 MUHNAC’s sprawling campus encompasses the old buildings of the Polytechnic School, the Lisbon Botanical Garden, and the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory, the latter joining the fold in July 2012. These locations provide a diverse and immersive learning experience. The Lisbon Botanical Garden, in particular, offers a lush retreat where visitors can explore a wide variety of plant species while connecting with the beauty and wonder of the natural world.
