🎷 I first met The Brothers at Ronnie Scotts in London about eight years ago, and let me tell you, these guys are as eclectic as a jazz trio on a caffeine binge. If you’re into live music in Lisbon, you won’t want to miss their bi-weekly performances. George, the eldest, juggles being a jazz pianist, vocalist, and drummer. Riqo, the middle brother, hops between drums, guitar, and vocals. Then there’s Danny, an incredible vocalist and keyboardist. Each one could probably play a whole band on his own, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve tried.

.

🎸 Their music, remixed by the likes of Bluey from Incognito, is as diverse as their talents. They’re always joined by a rotating cast of musicians – like Jenny T, a hip, soul, and pop vocalist who can probably out-sing your Spotify playlist. And Jiné, a Brazilian bassist with a personality as large as his bass lines. Then there’s Cedders & Gonçalo on percussion, Mark Twain on sax, Paulo Neves on jazz bass, Jair Carvalho on jazz guitar – (Jair is not often in town these days so if you catch hom it’s a super rare treat, he’s awesome)… the list goes on. Every performance is a bit like musical roulette; you never know what you’re going to get, but it’s always good.

🐕 Thursdays and Saturdays are my go-to days at their gigs. You’ll find me at the front table by the band, with my dog Rosie – who’s part-time adorable and part-time underworld guardian (especially to non-tippers). The band’s music spans pop, motown, soul, funk, R&B, and some stellar originals. Each brother brings his own flavor to the mix – George with jazz, Riqo leaning into R&B, and Danny, who could very well be the king of pop (if there were a democratic election for that title).

🎙️ But wait, there’s more! These guys aren’t just musicians; they’re producers with their own record label, Indy Pop Records. Check out their website, where you can listen to interviews with Tito Jackson, watch video sessions, and catch up on their latest tracks across all music platforms. It’s like a treasure trove for anyone who’s into good music and discovering new artists.

📸 Their musical heritage is something out of a Hollywood script. Their dad used to manage events at Casino Estoril, rubbing shoulders with legends like Ray Charles and Tom Jones. I’ve been to their family home, cooked for by Angela, their showbiz mum, and seen photos of the Brothers with these stars as kids. It’s like they were destined for greatness, sprinkled with a bit of stardust from the get-go.

🌟 Coda, The Brothers & Friends are an awesome musical experience, one which I keep coming back for time and time again. Each performance is a unique blend of genres, talents, and personalities. It’s like a music festival packed into a single evening, I love it. If you’re ever around LX Factory when they’re playing, drop by, say hi and enjoy some of the best live music around. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be name-dropping The Brothers alongside the greats their dad used to meet.
