Tammy Weis is a critically acclaimed Canadian singer and songwriter based in Europe, between Lisbon and London. She appears regularly, headlining top venues all over the world including Ronnie Scott’s in London. She has performed and collaborated with the likes of Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum, Bobby McFerrin, Randy Bachman and Rui Veloso.
Tammy grew up in Sherwood Park, Alberta and spent many of her formative years on the Vancouver jazz and soulful pop scene.
Weis defines Soul Whisper as the “construction of a folk-oriented soundscape, but always with jazz influences”, which are her musical roots. The recording process of this album was intense: “Fernando Pessoa has changed the way I think and live my life, said Weis. He brought out emotion in me I didn’t know I had. A vulnerability in my voice that I hadn’t heard before”.
The album itself is unprecedented: it’s the first time that a foreigner has set to music, a full album of Pessoa’s poetry. Fernando Pessoa was the most important Portuguese writer in the 20th Century and the album was given the approval of Fernando Pessoa’s nephew Luis Miguel Rosa Dias (1931-2019) who witnessed many of the recordings.
